Purpose of the job

This fulltime role in the Decorative Paints Product Development Centre is based at our major site in Sassenheim, the Netherlands. Your core purpose is to execute and analyse experimental work in the laboratory environment, focused on the development of new, innovative products and the improvement of existing products as defined in the project plan.

Key Accountabilities

This requires you to spend significant time in the laboratory as you:

• Set up and execute experiments to develop new products and improve/adapt existing formulations.
• Analyse, interpret and report results, present data and outcomes.
• Test new and replace existing raw materials, solving technical issues as they arise.
• Collaborate with colleagues in multi-disciplinary project teams.

Core tasks include planning, making and testing of laboratory samples and assisting colleagues with Local Technical Support, Marketing Support Units and Manufacturing Unit teams in Europe and Africa. This is for the purposes of complaint solving, colour development, modifying existing formulations according to latest (local) regulations, and ensuring product stewardship guidelines. At all times you be expected to work safely and observe good laboratory practice and safety standards.

Who are you?

To apply for this position, you must possess the following attributes:

• MBO degree in chemistry, formulating, physics or related.
• Knowledge of formulating coatings technology is an advantage.
• Self-starter with a hands-on approach to practical work.
• Able to work as a team player and support others in the laboratory.
• Broad computer skills and the affinity to quickly learn internally used software packages.
• Fully compliant at all times with all safety, health and environmental guidelines, according to site and company standards.
• Good communication and reporting skills.
• Proficient in written and spoken English. Fluency in Dutch is a big plus.
